Important Information Regarding Target Stores, Inc. Data Breach

Due to the data security breach involving Target Stores, Inc., all Yellowstone FCU debit card holders who made a purchase at any Target store between November 25 and December 13, 2013 are strongly encouraged to closely monitor their accounts and immediately report any questionable charges.  Additionally, these card holders may have a new debit card issued at their request by calling our office at 307/344.7974.  Due to the wide scope of the data breach, our debit card processor advises us that card issue requests are taking up to 14 days to be fulfilled.

Have You Opted In for Transaction Protection?

If you have a Yellowstone FCU debit card, you should have received a notice from us about new regulations that now require you to opt in for:

Overdraft protection on everyday debit and ATM card transactions

You choose:  You must give your permission (opt in) to apply standard overdraft practices to everyday debit card and ATM transactions before you can be charged overdraft fees.

Existing Accounts:  Effective August 15, 2010, standard overdraft practices won't apply to your everyday debit card and ATM transactions.  These transactions typically will be declined when you don't have enough money in your account, but you will not be charged overdraft fees.

New accounts:  If you opened a new account on or after July 1, 2010, you  cannot be charged for everyday debit card and ATM transctions unless you opted in.  For new accounts opened prior to July 1, 2010, your credit union or bank was required to send you a notice about their standard overdraft practices, instructing you to fill out and sign a form indicating you wanted to opt in to overdraft protection.

Flexibility:  Whatever your decision, the new overdraft rules give you flexibility.  If you opt in, you can cancel at any time.  If you do not opt in, you can do so later.

Checks and automatic bill payments:  The new rules do not cover checks or automatic bill payments that you may have set up for paying bills such as your mortgage, insurance and utilities.  Our standard overdraft practices will apply for these types of transactions.

Avoid declined transactions  on everyday debit and ATM transactions- opt in for overdraft protection by calling the credit union today with any questions.

For more detailed information about these new rules, please visit www.federalreserve.gov and click Consumer Information.

PROTECT YOUR FINANCIAL IDENTITY

DON'T BECOME A MONEY MULE!

Have you ever been approached online with an offer to earn hundreds or thousands of dollars in commission simply by receiving money and remitting it to another bank account? Or have you been asked to help someone in financial difficulty by receiving funds and then returning some of the funds to another person or organization? These are scams! A criminal is trying to recruit you as a money mule to transfer and disguise the money as proceeds of crime.

Money mules are the middlemen for criminals who have obtained funds by online fraud through Phishing or hacking. The criminals need a mule to launder the funds obtained as a result of illegal activities. After being recruited by the fraudsters, money mules receive funds into their bank accounts and then they withdraw the money and send it to a designated account (domestic or offshore), using a wire transfer service, minus a commission payment.

There are generally two methods which criminals use to recruit unsuspecting innocent people in their illegal activities:

Job Scams– fraudulent employment advertisements are posted online or emails are sent to random addresses promising quick commissions in return for receiving money and transferring it elsewhere.

“No experience necessary! Only a bank account and computer with Internet access needed!”

Romance Scams-vulnerable singles are asked to receive money and send it elsewhere duped by the promise of a relationship.

Criminals may use online chat rooms, social networking sites, post hoax websites, fake advertisements and fake profiles to recruit mules and try to persuade people to take part in illegal activity. You should ignore these online approaches and immediately delete suspicious emails.
